The NYTs has a few good ones here.
We posted one here last month.
I worked at a ski resort making snow for a couple years. There are a lot of factors at play in artificial snow. Rusted pipes could be one. There are also organic additives used to help snow crystalize (google “snomax”).
At my resort, the water was from pure, pristine mountain stream, and the snow still came out yellow sometimes. And later in the year, when any impurities are more concentrated due to melt, man-made snow leaves dark gunk on the bottom of skis.
Long story short: As a snow maker, I would be absolutely shocked if the discoloration were due to the fact that the water is recycled wastewater. People are just reacting.
