 Attorney-Adviser, Office of Solicitor, Albuquerque, N.M. As an Attorney-Advisor with the Department of the Interior, Office of the Solicitor, Southwest Regional Office, Albuquerque, New Mexico. The selectee will serve as a staff Attorney-Advisor providing legal advice and guidance to all Department of the Interior Bureaus in the Southwest Region, with an emphasis on the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Bureau of Indian Education. Specific duties include: Providing legal advice and counsel to organizations within the Department including writing legal opinions, handling administrative litigation, and providing assistance to the Department of Justice on judicial litigation in one or more of the following legal areas: Indian law matters involving natural resources, energy and mineral development and use, realty, water rights, and tribal government, education law, and appearing before the Interior Board of Indian Appeals; General law matters such as contracts and procurement, grants, cooperative agreements, and FOIA, and appearing before the Civilian Board of Contract Appeals, Interior Board of Land Appeals (IBLA), and the Department of the Interior’s Office of Hearings and Appeals; and Environmental and public land law matters, such as NEPA, ESA, CERCLA, NRDA, water rights, mining law, and resource and land management, and appearing before the IBLA. Executive Director of Governmental Operations, Rohnert Park, C.A. The Executive Director of Governmental Operations (ED) will function under the direct supervision of the Tribal Council to oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the Tribal Office. The ED will ensure effective and efficient management of governmental functions and programs, acts as a governmental liaison with granting agencies, and performs all other duties delegated by the Tribal Council, including but not limited to planning and implementation of new initiatives, programs, projects, financial objectives and tribal business goals for government operations as defined by the Tribal Council. Swinomish Indian Tribal Community

Swinomish Tribal Advocate, Swinomish Village, W.A. The Swinomish Indian Tribal Community is recruiting for a full time Tribal Advocate The Tribal Advocate represents eligible clients in Swinomish Tribal Court in criminal prosecutions and in Wellness Court hearings, and also provides general advice on a variety of civil matters.  The role of the Tribal Advocate in criminal matters is similar, but not identical to a public defender in the state court system.  The work in tribal court involves a creative, holistic, and interdisciplinary approach developed in conjunction with other tribal departments to achieve restorative justice. The Tribal Advocate may also be asked to draft ordinances or amendments to ordinances and to advise and make recommendations to the Tribe’s Law and Order Committee and other departments of the Tribe.

Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe

Associate Tribal Attorney, Cass Lake, M.N. The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe is seeking an Associate Tribal Attorney to provide legal advocacy to the Leech Lake Child Welfare Department, including legal representation for the Band in Tribal Court and State Court, review of contracts, and negotiations with the State of Minnesota, Department of Human Services, and County Governments.  Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Legal Director. Qualified applicants must have a Juris Doctorate Degree. Prior attorney experience preferred but not required. Must have a good Indian Law background and understanding of how Public Law 280 relates to tribal jurisdiction and rights and be able to identify opportunities to expand/recover treaty/jurisdictional right for the Band. Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall Foundation U.S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution

Senior Program Manager, Native American and Alaska Native Program, Tucson, A.Z. Reporting to the Director of the U.S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution, the Senior Program Manager (AD-14) for the Native American and Alaska Native (NAAN) program area independently develops and leads projects that can be complex, contentious, and high-profile. The successful candidate will work with the Director of the U.S. Institute, the Director of the DC Office of the Udall Foundation, and other senior program staff to develop and implement a marketing plan for the NAAN program area. The Senior Program Manager will oversee contracted neutral service providers and also provide direct mediation, facilitation, or training services as appropriate. Chehalis Tribal Court

The Chehalis Tribal Court (Oakville, W.A.) is seeking applicants for the following positions:

A part-time contract attorney to represent the parents or guardians in child welfare proceedings before the tribal court.  All applicants must have a law degree from any accredited law school and have at least two years of experience working with Indian Tribes, tribal communities and families.

A part time contract Guardian Ad Litem to independently investigate and advise the tribal court on the needs of tribal children, at risk youth and vulnerable adults.  All applicants must have a degree in social work or related field and a minimum of five years of experience working with children, youth and other vulnerable persons.  Must have good writing and verbal skills.  Experience working with Indian Tribes and tribal communities and families is required.
